Izumo Oyashiro Shrine
Izumo Oyashiro (出雲大社) is one of Japan's most important shrines, located in Izumo, Shimane Prefecture.
It is more famously called Izumo Taisha or Taisha san.
There are no records of exactly when Izumo Oyashiro was built, but it is often considered the oldest shrine in Japan,
being already in existence in the early 700s as revealed by the nation's oldest chronicles.
The current shrine was built in 1744 and is designated as a national treasure.
Izumo used to be ruled by a powerful clan in pre-historic times, and the region plays a central role in Japan's creation mythology.
The main deity (kami) enshrined at Izumo Oyashiro is Okuninushi no Okami.
According to the creation myths, Okuninushi was the creator of the land of Japan and the ruler of Izumo.
He also became known as the deity of good relationships and marriage.
Even now, the majestic appearance of Izumo Oyashiro continues to impress visitors.

Izumo Hinomisaki Lighthouse
A stark white tower rising from the cliffs, it's impossible to miss Izumo Hinomisaki Lighthouse in Izumo , the tallest lighthouse in East Asia.
Climbing the 163 steps to the top rewards you with dramatic views. The 360-degree observation deck is almost 40 meters above ground, with views up and down the coast, inland over the Izumo region and as far as the Oki Islands more than 50 kilometers out in the Sea of Japan.

Shimane Winary (in case of rain)
Shimane Winery is a popular winery where visitors can casually enjoy a winery tour, and it is also close to Izumo Taisha. The brick-colored roof is a symbol of the winery, and the white-walled, southern European-style buildings are particularly eye-catching. Inside the winery you can look around the wine production facility itself, free of charge, and you can also try free tastings of Shimane Wine at Bacchus, a tasting and spot sales house. The grape juice is recommended for those visitors who are not interested in sampling the wine.
